Namibia

I was just waxing rhapsodic on Monday eve to another friend interested in Namibia. The Wilderness settings, camps, and the people all made it a great trip. The Skeleton Coast Camp, in particular, was a truly amazing setting and experience, particularly because they had just had a 20 year flood 3 weeks before I arrived, and our drive along the river bed to the ocean was the first one the trackers had been able to go on since the rains. It was very special. I've included a couple of photos below where you can see the dramatic change in the landscape almost overnight.

The amazing thing about the continent of Africa is that every country has something different to share with the rest of the world. For Namibia, this is only one part of a grand landscape that changes from dunes to flood plains to rivers to mountains as you move through the country. It was a two-hour flight from Windhoek to the camp and in just this short amount of time, the scenery and weather changed so drastically. I knew Namibia is known for its landscape, but I didn't expect this grandeur.

We had a great trip and it was wonderful to see you in Cape Town. We just arrived home after a straightforward but arduous trip I can confirm that "I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke that I was not happy”,  now I do have to attend to unfinished business!

Abu Camp is beyond excellent. I've been wowed from the moment I walked in. You even get a meet-and-greet with the elephant group before you meet the manager. That may well replace Serra Cafema as my all time favourite!

We had a great time overall, and were especially impressed by the experience and professionalism of our guide Festus in Namibia. He is actually Wilderness's first African hire, and has been with them 21 years.  Thanks a lot for pointing us to the Namibian Desert Adventure, which we thought was most interesting and very good value.  We had a terrific 3 nights at Little Makalolo in Hwange in Zimbabwe - we saw cheetah, a pride of FOURTEEN lions, and an incredible 8 wild "painted" dogs! The dogs are incredibly rare, probably the most rare animal in the park.

We are back in Singapore after an amazing holiday. I wanted to thank you for organising a great itinerary. It far exceeded our expectations and we had virtually no problems at all. We loved the order of the trip – starting in Namibia and then moving through the Botswana delta and finally Zambia. We saw many many animals and enjoyed the incredible green of the delta. We loved the meerkats at Jacks Camp and were lucky enough to be there for the zebra and wildebeest migration. Wilderness Safaris' camps were excellent as was Wilderness Air.
