Thanks to you, we decided to make our honeymoon destination South Africa. It really makes a difference when the person giving you the advice has been there many times before.
As soon as we landed in Skukuza, we just totally forgot about the 14-hour journey from HK to Joburg and the 45-minute connecting flight to the Sabi Sand private game reserve. We had made it a point to try the northern and southern parts of the reserve in an attempt to get a glimpse of a variety of wildlife but also to sample the accommodations available. Two thumbs up for the 5 star set up at the Mala Mala Main Camp, and two thumbs up for the homier, easygoing, social atmosphere at Harry's Camp.
Up to now, we cannot compare our four days in Mala Mala to anything else we've ever done before. From the moment we tracked the first pride of lions to the moment we left that last herd of elephants behind, every moment of the safari was filled with adventure, amazement, enlightenment and relaxation all rolled into one.
Although we'd consider the safari to be the highlight of the trip, our 2-night spa package at the Coach House in Drakensberg Mountains and our 3-nights at the Clifton House B&B in Cape Town were just as memorable. Imagine a paraffin pedicure in the mountains overlooking a vineyard, followed two days later by an easy drive to visit the penguins of Simon's town, topped off with lunch at the Cape of Good Hope. We are definitely saving up for round 2.
